The
AFC South is the home of the Houston Texan. A popular NFL football team, they
were founded in 1999 as a replacement for the city's previous NFL franchise, the
Houston Oilers (who had moved to Tennessee and became the Titans). The team was
owned by Bob McNair until his death in 2018, when the majority of ownership went
to his wife, Janice.
While
the Texans, predictably, struggled through their first few seasons, their fortune took a turn for the better during the 2010s. They found success in the 2011 season
to the tune of their first division championship, clinching their first playoff
berth. Since then, they have won a total of five more AFC South championships.
David
Mills leads the charge at the quarterback position while Dameon Pierce is the
big threat in the run game. Brandin Cooks is the deep threat in the passing
game and a stubborn defense keeps this team in every game.
Still
a young club, the Texans are the only NFL team who have never won a road
playoff game, and the only team to have never made any appearance in a
conference championship game. In addition, they are also one of the four teams
to never have appeared in a Super Bowl, along with the Cleveland Browns,
Detroit Lions, and division rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Mills and company look to change
all of that as they take to the gridiron, determined to hoist the Lombardi
Trophy. Their home venue is NRG Stadium.
